German-based NGO. The site gives clear, well-written information about the Summit, outlining its issues from a civil society perspective.
International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives
Aims to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global environmental and sustainable development conditions through cumulative local actions.
ISSD's Summit portal
Site of Canada-based NGO the International Institute for Sustainable Development. News and resources aimed at policy makers, particularly relating to the Summit preparatory meetings.
Stakeholder Forum's Summit site
Site of an NGO operating out of the UK, set up at the 1992 Earth Summit – business, local government, NGOs, trade unions, women and youth. Strong emphasis on issues, with online debates, polls – and a call
to endorse the Earth Charter.
IIED's Summit site
The International Institute for Environment & Development is an NGO that promotes sustainable patterns of world development. The site addresses issues such as mining, the paper industry and food systems.
Dept of Environmental Affairs
Home page of the SA Department of Environmental Affairs & Tourism, which is overseeing the hosting of the Summit. Among other things, carries info on the country’s transfrontier conservation areas and state of the environment reports.
UNEP.Net
A UN Environment Programme site, UNEP.Net describes itself as “a global portal to authoritative environmental information based on themes and regions”. Thematic portals include ‘climate change’, ‘freshwater’ and ‘GEO data’. Regional portals under
development.
The Earth Council
An international NGO created to promote the implementation of the 1992 Earth Summit agreements. Programmes include the National Councils for Sustainable Development, the Earth Charter Programme, the Ombudsman Centre, and the Indigenous and Tribal People’s Centre.
Europe & the World Summit
Site of the European Rio +10 Coalition, comprising 18 European and international organisations. Aims to support and unite its members ahead of the Summit, and to explore partnerships between governments, business and civil society to further sustainable development.
