Illegal gathering in Zoo Lake

The City has learned with dismay about an illegal gathering that took place yesterday at the Zoo Lake. A young man was allegedly stabbed and two women brutally assaulted.

According to our records, no formal application was submitted and no formal permission was granted to use the park. An illegal use of any of the City's Parks is a criminal offence. Both the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department and City Parks had no prior knowledge of the gathering.

Where permission is granted to use a Park, mobile toilets and security are provided.

We call upon the organisers of the event to come forward and assist the police with their investigations.
