City police celebrate 2nd anniversary with top technology
On Friday March 28 the JMPD will celebrate its 2(superscript: nd) anniversary. Barely two years in place the agency has set itself apart form its peers.
The festivities will be held at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown from 11am. Speakers on the occasion will include Gauteng MEC for Transport Mr. Khabisi Mosonkutu, Public Safety MEC Nomvula Mokonyane and the City's Public Safety Portfolio Committee Chairperson Sizakele Nkosi.
The JMPD has in a short period set in motion organisational and human resources abilities for the City of Johannesburg to manage crime levels and finally rid itself of crime and the negative image associated with it.
The JMPD has a detailed operational plan that asserts it as a major role player in crime management and prevention in the country. The organisational strategy called "Project Chariot of Fire" and the subsequent year round operational campaign code named "Operation Nude Ants" firmly placed the JMPD on course towards winning the war against crime and grime in the city.
On its birthday, at 4pm, at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre the JMPD will launch a new law enforcement technology that will establish it as one of the country's technological pioneering law enforcement agencies. The new technology, the Telemetric Enabling Technology (TET) is the first of its kind in the fight against crime.
The TET used by the JMPD has been dubbed "Notshi" (a Sesotho word for bee). The JMPD said it was befitting that the solution be given an African name given that it was a product the Blue IQ Innovation Hub technology, a provincial economic development agency. The Notshi solution will for the first time allow field officers and managers at different levels to have access to data and images of drivers, offenders via general packet radio system (GPRS) using the latest third generation Cellphone (3G). Access to data will be real time allowing the officer to execute his or her duties with the efficiency never seen before in the history of policing.
