JOBURG APPROVES FUNDING FOR HOUSING PROJECTS
The City of Johannesburg Council today agreed to the Provincial funding to the tune of 86 million for various housing projects in the city.
The funds are to be utilised mainly for the land tenure and essential services for three major housing projects with the City of Johannesburg. These projects include the Golden Highway Triangle Housing Project, Weiller's Farm Housing Project and the Vlakfontein Extension 1, 2 and 3 Housing Project.
The Golden triangle project, on the border of Golden Highway in the west, involves the installation of the essential services for the entire project of 7000 erven of the more than 84 hectares of land. A process of relocating the inhabitants of the informal settlement within the project area onto permanent pegged sites was successfully undertaken earlier this year.
In another development about 4000 stands are to be serviced in the Vlakfontein Extension 1, 2 and 3 projects to benefit families who were relocated from the Thembelihle Informal Settlement, Maraisburg/Kazerne informal Settlement and the Transport House earlier this year.
Further more, 3200 families stand to benefit from the project in Weiler's Farm. The project is aimed to benefit families' residing within the area.
All these projects entail the formalisation of the project area in terms of township establishment process, installations of essential services and the provision of secure tenure to approved beneficiaries.
