VLAKFONTEIN GETS ELECTRICITY

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Amos Masondo, will officially switch on the electricity supply at Vlakfontein Extension one, south of Johannesburg.

Vlakfontein currently consist of 1300 families who were relocated from the Thembelihle Informal Settlement, Maraisburg/Kazerne informal Settlement and the Transport House earlier this year.

The entire area of Vlakfontein Extension 1, 2, and 3 is meant to accommodate about 4000 families. The first phase to electrify Vlakfontein will benefit all the 1300 families and plans are underway to electrify the entire area of 4000 sites.

The official switch on will take place on Friday, 13 December 2002 at 5pm on an area covering 500 sites. Other activities on the day include the official opening of a tap which supply water to the area and the opening of a house built by the Thembelihle Development Trust.

From Johannesburg take the Golden Highway
Pass a set of traffic lights of a road leading to Zacharia Park
About 500 m turn left into a gravel road then follow the signs.
