JOBURG MAYOR WELCOMES WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION South African Health Minister Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang and the Mayor of the host city of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) Amos Masondo will host a welcome dinner for the heads of delegations attending the Symposium on Health and Sustainable Development.
The symposium, one of the parallel events of the WSSD is co-hosted, by the World Health Organisation and the South African Health Ministry in association with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and a number of other international health organisations.
The Symposium will be held on Saturday 31 August at Ubuntu Conference Centre and it will be made of five plenary sessions focusing on Investing in Health, Children's Health and Environment, Research, Human health and Sustainable Development, Intersectoral Action in practise and Health and Sustainable Development issues in the SADC country.
Minister Tshabalala-Msimang and Mayor Masondo will from 18:30 in the evening at the Civic Theatre will welcome to Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, Director General of WHO and leaders of delegations on behalf of people of South Africa and Johannesburg. As the leaders will be extending South African hospitality to the world and Southern African health leaders, they will also share the South African experience on health issues.
