Joburg
donates R7, 5 million for Orlando's destitute children
City of
Johannesburg Council meeting today resolved to donate R7, 5 million
for the
construction of the Albertina Sisulu Centre- a community centre to
cater for
destitute children and those with disabilities.
Council said the
project has been under discussion since 1996 after Mrs
Albertina Sisulu and
the Sisulu family through the Sisulu Trust expressed
the desire to contribute
to the community of Orlando by giving back to
the
community.
"Social studies, paid for by the Development Bank
of South Africa (DBSA),
were undertaken and a report clearly established the
need for a facility
that would serve the needs the most vulnerable, being
children with special
needs and the destitute," Council said in a
statement.
Council also said the money for the construction of the
facility will come
from City's capital budget for this current financial
year.
