Ikwezi
recreation centre to receive facelift
Soweto's Ikwezi Recreation
Centre in Orlando West is to receive a R350 000
facelift, a City of
Johannesburg Council meeting resolved today.
The City agreed to
accept a grant of R350 000 from Gauteng Provincial
Government's Poverty
Alleviation Fund towards upgrading the facility, which
is in urgent need of
upgrading.
The centre's facelift will boast a complete interior
renovation with
repainting and flooring, new fittings featuring the
installation of a new
kitchen and ablution facilities, a new fencing for the
parameter and the
complete paving and roofing of the
courtyard.
Besides the positive contribution towards the improvement
of the quality of
life of the community in the area, a number of the
unemployed residents in
the area will cash in on the employment opportunities
that will arise from
the facelift project, as only local labour will be
utilised.
