COUNCIL TO IMPROVE SERVICES IN DOORNKOP
The City of Johannesburg
Council yesterday agreed to apply for funding of
stands in the Doornkop
(Greenvillage) Housing Project in terms of the
Consolidated Municipal
Infrastructure Programme for the installation of
bulk and link services to
the project.
The Doornkop housing project, which is situated within
Region 6, consists
of 942 stands. The project has been approved by the
Provincial Housing
Department to be part of a right-sizing programme. Since
the bulk and links
services cannot be funded from the subsidy amount, Council
had to make the
necessary budgetary allocation or apply in terms of the CMIP
programme for
funding.
According to the developer, extensive
communication has been carried out
with the elected representatives and
members of the community. Through this
process, the right-sizing programme
has extensively been explained and
support obtained.
There is a
great need to right-size beneficiaries in the Greater Soweto
area and it is
very important that the project is not delayed.
Council said that the
reason it is applying for this funding is to assist
the communities who
received partially services stands, upgrading existing
stands and provide
adequate municipal services.
