MEDIA RELEASE

The Soweto Refugee Services will be celebrating the world refugee day at
the Chicken Farm next to Orange Farm taxi rank, South of Johannesburg. The
event will take place on the 20 June 2002 from 9h30 to 14h30.

The Soweto Refugee Centre (S.R.C) was established in Soweto during the year
2001 in Soweto with the aim of fighting against xenophobia: the deep
dislike of foreigners based on unfounded myths and stereotypes, by teaching
South African who is a refugee and who is an illegal immigrant and why?

S.R.C is registered in terms of the non-profit organisation's act 71 of
1997 by the Department of Social Development under the registration number:
017-883.

A highlight of the day will be a cultural exchange programme, whereby South
Africans and Refugees will be exchanging ideas on various African
dishes/recipes. Other activities of the day include entertainment in a form
of African Music and Dances.

Member of the public and member of the media are invited to this
significant function, which is aimed at educating people about the plight
of refugees in Africa in the spirit of rebuilding the African continent.
