City warning
to informal traders
Conmen are roaming the streets of Johannesburg
tricking informal traders of
their hard earned cash promising to register
them to have trading stall at
the recently completed Metro Mall at the Bree
Street Taxi rank in the CBD.
The City of Johannesburg today distanced
itself from the tricksters and
warned informal traders not to give anybody
their money for whatever
reason. Informal traders should not pay any monies
to any
individual/organisations as only the Metro Trading Company (MTC) is
able to
allocate stalls/spaces in Metro Mall and those allocations will not
happen
until after the registration process has been
completed.
Registration of informal traders is about to start for
Stalls/Spaces in the
New Metro Centre Mall Complex.
This work is
being undertaken by the (MTC) who will be taking informal
traders details
over the next few weeks at a series of pre-arranged
meetings to be held at
the Metro Mall.
The first registration meetings will be confined to
those informal traders
already trading in the Newtown/CBD areas and will be
carried out free of
charge.
Only when stalls/spaces have been
officially allocated by the MTC will any
rentals become
payable.
ENDS.
