MEDIA RELEASE
8 November 2006
Metro Police do not issue tendersAllegations of tender irregularities by SAMWU are unfounded.
To avoid corruption in any form, adjudication and awarding of tenders is done by the Executive Acquisition Committee and not by individual departments.
The process is done in compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act 53 of 2003, which clearly stipulates how the tender process must be carried out.
Moreover the company referred to was only awarded the tender to produce speed cameras on 1 November 2006. At this point JMPD has not received any equipment.
The City issues tenders through its Supply Chain Management department. This Department is responsible for the procurement of goods for the City.
All companies have to register on a database and provide valid proof of vat registration certificate, tax number and furnish BEE compliance to be able to conduct business with the City.
