JOHANNESBURG CONGRATULATES TSOTSI ON OSCAR HONOURS
"Tsotsi" has made all South Africans proud by scooping the Oscar for best Foreign Language film at the Academy Awards Ceremony, says the City Manager of Johannesburg, Mr Pascal Moloi.
The movie was shot in and around Johannesburg, mainly in the sprawling township of Soweto and downtown, giving the city an opportunity to be seen on the international stage. "This is an excellent portrayal of life in Johannesburg highlighting the hustle and bustle of daily activities in a big city," he says.
The majority of cast and crew-members of Tsotsi are based in Johannesburg.
"They have again demonstrated the creative spirit that is prevalent within our city and the fact that this South Africa is a country alive with talent and possibilities. This also compliments the hard work put by Councilors and the administration officials in building Johannesburg into a World Class City.
"Tsotsi has placed Johannesburg firmly in the global spotlight," he says. "Council and the residents of Johannesburg are proud to say this performance will help to promote our city as a prime location for filmmaking and a 'must-visit' destination for international travelers and tourists."
"The entire cast, the director, producers and crew who are responsible for this excellent piece of film-making must be congratulated. I am sure all the people of Johannesburg are extremely proud of your achievements," says Moloi.
