REGION 8 YOUTH MONTH CELEBRATION

The Region 8 Sport and Recreation Department, has arranged a number of sporting activities at various facilities within the Inner City to commemorate the Youth Month.

The events are scheduled as follows:

2010 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

"The campaign is aimed at grooming youngsters who want to be part of the Bafana Bafana team in 2010. The campaign is targeting the under 12 and 14 group on 10 of June and the Under 17 and Under 19 on the 24 of June" commented Philemon Mokgesi Thr Region 8 Sports Coordinator.

Venue: Maurice Freeman Recreation Centre
Date: 10 and 24 June 2006.
Time: 08h00-16h00

SWIMMING GALA

Venue: Ellis Park Swimming Pool.
Date: 16 June 2006.
Time: 08h00-16h00.

The target age groups are the under 12, 14, 16, and 18.

YOUTH GAMES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Venue: Johannesburg Stadium.
Date: 16 June 2006.
Time: 08h00- 16h00.

The target groups are able bodied people and people with disabilities from homes, centres and schools.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

Venue: Barnato Park High School, Berea.
Date: 26-30 June 2006.
Time: 08h00-16h00

The school Holiday Programme aims to engage children in the Inner City through sport and recreation. The targeted age group is from 6-14 years.

The event will attract a large number of children since the schools will be closed. The children will be encouraged to make regular visits and spend leisure time at the recreation centers. Children from all Recreation centers will congregate at Barnato High School in order to compete against each other with the objective of promoting mass participation in recreational activities.

26 June nursery schools

Story telling, sack race, tug of war, egg and spoon race, face painting, dance and morabaraba

27 - 30 June 2006

Kgati. dibeke, kho-kho, morabaraba, incuva, monopoly, chess, table tennis and snooker.
