Safety awareness initiative in Norwood

A Johannesburg City Safety Programme (JCSP), safety awareness campaign will take place on Saturday 6 July from 10am until 1pm in Norwood.

JMPD, SAPS and local community police forum members will distribute pamphlets on safety awareness amongst residents and businesses.

The campaign will be headed by Metro Chief of Police, Chris Ngcobo and Norwood station Commander Senior Superintendent Lebeko.

" By regularly carrying out these safety campaigns, we hope to instill a heightened sense of awareness amongst the community", says Ngcobo.

Ngcobo says, " Our job as metro police and SAPS is not only law enforcement but to serve and protect people from all forms of crime". Continuing he says, " Community co-operation is vital for the City's safety programme to succeed and residents must co-operate with the police in rooting out crime".

He said that joining the local police forum was another way of keeping the neighbourhood safe.

Norwood is one of four strategic geographic areas in which the JCSP is being implemented. The other areas are Ellis Park, the Inner City and Moroka in Soweto.

Earlier in the year a similar safety campaign was successfully held in Orange Grove with residents applauding the efforts of police to intensify safety awareness. During the campaign police received tipoffs of bylaw contraventions and drug dealing.
