MUNICIPAL PAY POINTS TO STAY OPEN TO ACCOMMODATE LAST MINUTE RUSH FOR REGISTRATION FOR MUNICIPAL SERVICES SUBSIDY

The City's Revenue offices will stay open late today (Monday 30th January) to accommodate the flood of people who have arrived to register for the Municipal Services Subsidy scheme.

Tomorrow is the last day for account holders to register and benefit from the write-off of the arrear debt on their account. After tomorrow, people may still register for the scheme but they won't have their arrear debt written off.

According to the City's Revenue Department spokesperson Mandy Jean Woods, "This morning, we had quite a flood of people at a number of our offices trying to register before the deadline tomorrow. We want to let our customers know that we will do everything possible to ensure that they all get attended to and that their applications are processed before the deadline."

Woods says the City intended to keep its municipal offices open Monday until the queues had been dealt with, "Even if it meant staying open until midnight tonight."

"We want to appeal to our customers to be patient, we will attend to you as soon as possible. We also want to remind our customers that they need to bring the correct documentation with them in order to register while they wait.

These documents include
  • Original or certified copy of a green SA identity book;
  • Copy of their latest municipal account;
  • Proof of their income (i.e. recent copy of a payslip)
  • Affidavit from the SA Police Services confirming employment status if unemployed;
  • National Social Security Grant card (if applicable, eg, for pensioners and people with disabilities).
  • Letter from SA Revenue services confirming tax status;
  • Copy of the death certificate of the account holder (where applicable).
