21 February 2006 Mayor Hands over Title Deeds Community Members Families in Rabie Ridge, Eldorado Park and Ennerdale are now proud homeowners, with the formal handing over of title deeds by the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Amos Masondo today. More than 300 families benefited from a government initiated ReTrO project. The ReTrO (Regularisation and Transfer of Ownership) Project was initiated in 2004 with the aim of transferring the last remaining council housing stock into the names of the lawful individuals occupying the properties. The City has delivered on its promise of providing ownership to members of the community. Providing ownership of property is empowerment, and it is through empowering the people that the city seeks to develop sustainable human settlements to previously disadvantaged communities. It is through the provision of tangible assets that individuals within these communities can now make use of such to hold as, for example collateral against a loan from a financial institution should they wish to extend the properties.
