Impasse over school arrears breached
Johannesburg Water, the water and sanitation service provider to the City of Johannesburg and the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) have mutually resolved to finalise all school accounts within 21 days. This comes on the wake of Johannesburg Water threatening to disconnect water services to defaulting schools.Senior officials from the GDE and JW met today in a bid to find a resolution to the school arrear crisis. Both bodies agreed that 21 days was sufficient time to address any and all matters regarding the arrears at schools.
Johannesburg Water is very encouraged by the outcome of the meeting as it showed a sincere determination by both parties to resolve matters without impacting on the learning processes.
Johannesburg Water is committed to the delivery of quality water and sanitation services to all but at the same time a reciprocal duty exists for payment of services by consumers.
