Comment on the new Integrated Development Plan

I would be grateful if you would assist in ensuring that readers of your publications or listeners of your radio station are made aware of the opportunity they have to comment on the new draft five year IDP for the City.

On 3 April 2006 a draft IDP, budget and tariffs was approved by Council and is now available for public comment.

This draft IDP was developed after a process of consultation in the latter part of 2005. Councillors were asked to hold meetings with communities in their constituencies. The City also held meetings with representatives of numerous organizations working in Joburg as well as meetings in all Regions.

A copy of the IDP, budget and tariffs can be viewed at any of the Council's facilities (Rates Hall, People's Centre, Libraries, Regional Offices, Community Centres) as well as on the website, www.joburg.org.za.

The Speaker of Council, Councillor Nkele Ntingane says, "Joburg is committed to affording communities and individuals the opportunity to critically look at this draft IDP, budget and tariffs and comment before finalization at the Council meeting of 24 May 2006".

"Comments should be received before 12 May 2006 so that elected representatives can have the opportunity to review comments and make amendments to the IDP", says Councillor Ntingane.

To receive an electronic copy of the draft IDP, email Public1@Joburg.org.za or Public2@Joburg.org.za

Comments can be addressed to Community Participation Office of the Speaker, PO Box 1049 Johannesburg 2000; emailed to People1@joburg.org.za or People2@joburg.org.za or sent via your elected representative.
