Press Release

CITY RATES HALL AND REVENUE DEPARTMENT TO MOVE IN NOVEMBER

The City of Johannesburg's Department of Revenue is to move from its location at 66 Jorissen Street in November this year.

The Department will be moving just up the road to Thuso House, 61 Jorissen Street, opposite the Sappi Theatre Gardens Park next to the Civic Theatre. The move will occur over four weekends during November.

Revenue Acting CEO Roland Hunter says around 450 people in total will be moving. "The move was necessitated by the need for more space. A particular problem for us at our present building is that there is insufficient parking for the staff and the hundreds of customers and visitors that come here each month. In addition, there was insufficient space to create the kind of customer interface we wanted."

The benefits of the move are significant. "We were able to make savings through lower rentals and lower parking charges, for example, and we will enjoy the synergy of various departments being located closely together. Finally, we were able to create a fantastic purpose-built environment for our customers," he says.

The new building offers ample secure parking for customers. The parking can be accessed from the Stiemens Street side of the building and a short walk down the parking ramp to the entrance on the same side will allow easy access to the Revenue Customer Service Center (formerly the Rates Hall).

"We have clustered all our customer functions to be easily accessible, so that customers will Can easily move from one service to another (ie, from cashiers desk to customer liaison desks, to clearance certificate desks)."

Business visitors, staff and deliveries will only be accessible from the Jorissen Street entrance of Thuso House.

Every effort has been made to ensure that there will be no interruption of our services.

The moving dates of specific departments within the Revenue Management Unit which the public are asked to take note of are:

Credit Control; Service Recovery Unit; Community Liaison, Human Resources - (Thursday and Friday) 3 and 4 November

Cashiers, Clearance Certificates, Refunds - (Friday and Saturday) 11 and 12 November

Ends
