Press Release

CLARIFICATION OF REGISTRATION PERIOD FOR MUNICIPAL SERVICES SUBSIDY

The Executive Mayor yesterday (4 May 2005) launched the registration drive for the municipal services subsidy. Following the launch, it has become clear that there is uncertainty about the period during which people can register, according to the City's spokesperson for the Department of Revenue Mandy Jean Woods.

"What we launched yesterday was the registration drive. This will include special registration days in particular areas around the City, and these have been identified in various parts of the communications plan, including advertising," Woods says.

"This simply means that these are the areas we think we will get a significant number of people wanting to register, and in anticipating the demand, we are directing additional resources in terms of registration agents and computers and so on, into those areas on those particular days," she says.

"It does not mean that people can't register on other days in other areas. In fact, we want to encourage people from other parts of the city to visit their nearest pay-points and / or People Centres to register on any day that these places are open for business."

So far, the following special registration days have been set up for the month of May:
