Press Release

CITY'S REVENUE DEPARTMENT TO MOVE IN SEPTEMBER

The City of Johannesburg's Department of Revenue is to move from its location at 66 Jorissen Street in September this year.

According to the Department's spokesperson Mandy Jean Woods, the move was necessitated by the need for more space. "A particular problem for us at our present building is that there is insufficient parking for the staff and the thousands of customers and visitors that come here each month. In addition, there is not enough space to be able to create the kind of customer interface we would like to have," she says.

The Department will be moving just down the road to 61 Jorissen Street, opposite the Sappi Theatre Gardens Park next to the Civic Theatre. "The exact date of the move is still to be finalised, but it is expected to begin in September this year. Work on renovations has begun," says Woods.

The new building offers ample parking for visitors and is being designed to ensure that visitors will be able to easily move from one service to another (ie, from cashiers desk to customer liaison desks, to clearance certificate desks). Renovations are being done such that all visitors will enter from the Stiemens Street side of the building, and all departments needing to be accessed by visitors will be easily accessible from that side.

"We will also be spending R2 million upgrading the area around the building, in line with the Braamfontein upgrade project being managed by the Johannesburg Development Agency," she says.

"All account holders will be timeously informed about the details of the relocation of our offices," Woods says.
