Press Release

Anti-crime campaign in Hillbrow and Berea

The communities of Hillbrow and Berea will rally together to assist law enforcement officials in the fight against crime during a mass Anti-crime campaign.

The Anti-crime campaign, spearheaded by the City of Johannesburg, JMPD and SAPS, is aimed at informing the public about drug dealing, loitering and other crimes. The anti-crime drive will also highlight the critical role of citizens in the eradication of crime.

The mass action starts on Saturday, 05 March 2005 at Alec Gorshel Park at 08:00 (Corner Catherine and Joel Avenues) and proceeds to Fife and O'Reilly Streets.

The community will be addressed by key public safety role players from the Office of the Chief of Police (JMPD), Office of the Provincial and Area Commissioners (SAPS) and the Office of the MMC for Public Safety.

Multi-disciplinary operations with the City Council and law enforcement bodies have yielded significant results in the fight against crime within the Inner City.

The campaign will lead to heightened enforcement in identified areas as part of the City's objective to create a safe and healthy living environment for all its citizens.

Further information can be obtained from Clr William Ntsanwisi for Ward 64 (Berea and parts of Yeoville) on 072 798 8960 / 076 104 5342.
