Press Release

More hitech sewer cleaning on the pipeline

Johannesburg Water (Pty) Limited, the water and sanitation service provider for the City of Johannesburg, will be enlarging its sewer cleaning operations through the purchase of three additional hi-tech cleaning vehicles.

During 2002 Johannesburg Water procured three state of the art hydro vacuum jetting tankers to assist in the proactive sewer cleaning programme. These tankers since then have cleaned 221 kilometres of sewers hotspot areas and a further 230 kilometres will be cleaned in the coming year.

The hotspots targeted include Bryanston, Ferndale, Randpark Ridge, Naturena, Weltevreden Park and Soweto. The seasonal results showed a decrease in blockages in Ferndale, Bryanston, and Randpark Ridge of 16%, 14%, and 10% respectively. Hotspots identified for 2005 include Ivory Park, Northcliff, Blairgowrie and Soweto.

Johannesburg Water is in the process of procuring three additional vacuum tankers which will be delivered in the end of August 2005.

The hi-tech cleaning vehicle will enhance Johannesburg Water's service delivery and efficiency to the community of Johannesburg.
