Geo-Informatics

The directorate's key objectives

Corporate Geo-Informatics has four core aims:
  • To promote more effective communication;
  • To promote efficiency;
  • To support informed decision-making; and
  • To track the long-term effects of decisions.

The following objectives have been identified to enable it to achieve these aims:
  • Provide strategic direction for the City's GIS;
  • Analyse customer needs and requirements;
  • Manage GIS projects;
  • Build, validate and maintain database content;
  • Database management;
  • Add value to data (analysis, maps and reports);
  • Establish linkages and partnerships with owners and sources of information; and
  • Provide a geographically referenced information service (property information).

The following outcomes are anticipated:
  • Corporate base information pertaining to the administrative, socio-economic, cultural and natural environments;
  • A secure data environment;
  • Added value products (maps and reports);
  • Data warehouse; and
  • Information counter service.
