Two hundred old
buses to be sold off

June 21, 2002

METROBUS plans to dispose of 200 of its fleet of old buses to make way for new ones. The buses to be sold off include 17 mixed fleet single decker buses and 183 double decker buses.

Metrobus, a corporate unit of the City of Johannesburg, recently took delivery of 200 new buses from Volvo and Marcopolo/Brasa to replace its ageing fleet. The new buses - 150 double deckers and 50 single deckers - have already been introduced into the scheduled services of Metrobus.

Metrobus runs about 600 buses in 80 routes within the boundaries of Johannesburg, Roodepoort and Randburg. The service carries approximately 20 million passengers per annum.
