YOU can catch a film, a play, a concert. You can test your sporting skills, tour the art gallery, listen to some fine poetry. Or you can settle down with some inspirational stories of the amazing women Johannesburg has produced - for Women's Day this year will last the entire weekend.

- This is your weekend - if you're a woman, that is. This year's Market Theatre's Women's Festival promises not-to-miss music, films, dance and more.
- Johannesburg has produced some exceptional women in the past 100 years, from Emily Hobhouse to Albertina Sisulu, Helen Suzman, Ayanda Nhlangothi. Here is a selection of stories from the Jo'burg website.
- Four decades ago, these mbaqanga sisters were wowing the crowds - and they're going strong, in the Midi Music in Public Places celebration.
- Who says all the great poets are men? Woman poets will move, educate and delight you in a performance on Sunday, August 11.
- The Gauteng premier will be honouring women in the province who have made a difference in their communities.
- Take a trip to the Johannesburg Art Gallery on Saturday afternoon and acquaint yourself with famous South African female artists.
- There's a sport for every woman - everything from basketball to diketo - at a sports day in Moletsane.
- Women and jazz will be on the agenda at Kippie's in Newtown all weekend.

Executive mayor Amos Masondo, surrounded by models who were parading garments designed by Bongani Creations. Many of the garments were embroidered with beads by women taking part in a rural women's development project run by the company. A fashion show to showcase local talent is planned for the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
