Rubbish collection uninterrupted

Pikitup will continue its waste collection services as usual on Heritage Day. Landfill sites and garden sites will also be open.

RUBBISH will be collected as usual on Heritage Day, Monday, 24 September, according to the City's waste removal utility.

"Pikitup would like to inform the residents and businesses in Johannesburg that refuse collection services will continue as normal on 24 September," it said.

Domestic, bulk, dailies or wet waste, collection services will operate normally. "All garden sites will remain open on [that] … public holiday for the disposal of garden refuse and recyclable items."

Marius de Villiers, a spokesman for the utility, says that the provision of services, especially on a public holiday, is an indication of the dedicated service that it is willing to provide.

All landfill sites, except the Ennerdale landfill, will be fully operational. Pikitup is responsible for keeping the city clean, so providing an attractive and hygienic environment.

For further information, call Pikitup's contact centre on 011 712 5200 or Joburg Connect on 011 375 5555; alternatively visit the Pikitup website.

Heritage Day was declared a national public holiday in 1996, to celebrate the country's culture, its historical inheritance and languages.
