IF Soweto can't come to the beach, the beach will come to Soweto. Yes, it's again time for the Soweto Beach Party at Power Park Dam.

The fifth annual Soweto Beach Party takes place on Saturday, 29 September, from noon; this year the theme is Beach Bling Soweto Style. And once again the best local music acts, cool cocktails, fireworks and delicious food will be the order of the day.

Power Park Dam in Orlando will be transformed into an urban beach with 400 tons of soft beach sand, boats, beach bars, palm fronds and big, bright umbrellas.

"This year's event promises to be bigger and better [than previous years]," says Marc Alcock, the managing director of Minanawe Marketing, the party's organisers. "True to this year's theme, we expect everyone - and we mean everyone - to show off their best beach bling."

Party performers include Glen Lewis and DJ Terance; Jawz; C-Live; YFM's hip-hop DJ, Zan-D; DJ Kabila; DJ CNDO of Durban's Finest; Sis Khethiwe; DJ Bobo; Trackblastaz; DJ Menace of Ziyawamo; DJ QT; and Sis and Jones of Phezulu Showcase.

Billy Chaka, the marketing manager at Minanawe Marketing, says the line-up will be a major draw card. "The best-ever fresh and reverberating outfits will grace this year's Soweto Beach Party. With the majority of the artists having released smash hits recently, the audience will be eating out of the palms of their hands."

Also on the cards are Glenzito House Avenue; Bricks, featuring DJ What-What of Will of Steel; Bojo Mujo; Gang of Instrumentals; Malaika; and Mo Molemi. DJ Fats will act as the master of ceremonies.

The organisers expect about 10 000 people to join the party.

Tickets are R85 each and are available at Masakeng in Mofolo Central, Sakhumzi in Orlando, Meli's in Pimville, Herman's Place in Protea South, The Zone in Emndeni, KwaThabeng in Pimville, Papi's Place in Dlamini and Nandos outlets in Jabulani Mall, Protea Mall, Westgate, Southgate and Ormonde.

"The beach party is going to be wild, fun and promises to be the party of the year," Alcock says. "Tickets will not be available at the venue."
