One concert from
Black Eyed Peas

US hip-hop maestros Black Eyed Peas are in Joburg for a one-off concert this weekend as part of the Black, Blue & You world tour.

GRAMMY Award winners the Black Eyed Peas will be in Joburg for a one-off concert this weekend. On their third visit to the country, the musicians will perform on Friday 12 October, at the Nasrec Expo Centre.

Bongo Maffin, South African Music Award winner for best kwaito band, is the support act.

The concert is part of the band's Black, Blue & You world tour, which covers 13 countries, including Nigeria. Fergie is expected to perform tunes off her solo album The Dutchess while Will.i.am will perform his latest solo single, Help Us Out.

The quartet hails from Los Angeles, in the United States, and the pop- and dance-influenced style of hip-hop has garnered a worldwide following. The four are Will.i.am, who was born William James Adams Junior; Allan Pineda, who is known as apl.de.ap; Jaime Gomez, aka Taboo; and Stacey Ferguson, who is known as Fergie.

Will.i.am, a founding member, said he drew the inspiration of naming the group after a vegetable from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, a California rock band he likes.

Formed in the 1990s, the band's breakthrough came with the third album, Elephunk, in 2003, which shot them to international stardom and sold 7,5 million copies worldwide. It was followed by the release of Monkey Business in 2005 and Renegotiations in March 2006.

Despite venturing into solo careers, the Peas are still together and still producing smash hits.

The Black Eyed Peas is performing at the Nasrec Expo Centre, in the south of Joburg, on 12 October; the concert starts at 7pm. Ticket prices range from R150 to R350 and are available at Computicket outlets, on 083 915 8000 or online on the Computicket website.
