SOME of the world's leading culinary experts will be rattling the pans at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, during the Good Food and Wine Show.
The show runs from 1 to 4 November and features the likes of Dave Meyers and Si King, together known as The Hairy Bikers, the cake master Mich Turner, and the well-known British chef Brian Turner.
Keith Hurdman, the master chocolatier from Melt, a top chocolate shop in London's trendy Notting Hill, will add a dash of cocoa sweetness. Hurdman is an award-winning chocolatier and in 2003 was an ambassador for Belgian chocolate. This year he landed an award at the World Chocolate Awards.
Marie Claire cookbooks author Michelle Canston is another fixture. Canston is a food lover and critic, and will launch her latest collection of recipe books, Seasonal Kitchen, at the Good Food and Wine Show.
Andrew Nutter rounds out the international kitchen. Nutter began his culinary career when he was 13 years old and a runner up in Britain's national Junior Cook of the Year competition. At just 21 he opened his own restaurant, Nutter.
He will anchor the Organic Pavilion discussions, with topics including organics for children, organic teas and coffees, and the health benefits of organic foods. "[He] will be heading up the organic forum, doing demonstrations, and talking about healthy eating," say the organisers, Gourmet South Africa.
For some local flavour, there is The Chefs in Action Theatre, where Miss South Africa Megan Coleman and 94.7 Highveld Stereo's Jeremy Mansfield will show off their cooking skills. While spicy cooking secrets from India, Japan, China and the Middle East will be shared at The Eastern Mosaic Theatre.
Workshops will offer the chance "to cook trendsetting dishes with the latest, most innovative celebrity chefs", and for java addicts, the Good Food and Wine show has pencilled in a coffee route through some of Joburg's most popular shopping malls.
Paint the Town Blue Coffee Route runs until 3 November and is aimed at exploring the "distinctive coffee culture that is emerging in the country". More than 70 coffee shops will be participating, including those in Benmore, Parkwood, Melrose Arch, Illovo, Northcliff, Rosebank and Kelvin.
Participants will be encouraged to vote for their best coffee, best vibe and best store window. Entry forms are available at participating shops.
The Good Food and Wine Show is at Gallagher Estate in Midrand from 1 to 4 November. Tickets are R60 for adults and R30 for children under 12 years and pensioners. They are available at Computicket outlets, on 083 915 8000, online on the Computicket website, or at the door.
Doors open at 10am and close at 8pm from Thursday to Saturday, and at 10am and 6pm on Sunday.
