Family day
wraps up Arts Alive

Music and fun mark the last date on the Arts Alive calendar this year, with a concert and family day in Eldorado Park.

October 12, 2007

ARTS ALIVE ends in Eldorado Park, with a concert featuring singer Bianca le Grange and jazz musician Ernie Smith, on 28 October.

The concert will be held at the Eldorado Park swimming pool and the whole family is invited for a day of fun and music, according to Melony Eksteen, the organiser. Tickets are R20 each.

"People will enjoy musical hits from one of South Africa's most versatile female musicians. Blend this with jazz and Afro-pop melodies from a musician who has won accolades locally and internationally, and fans will be in for treat."

Smith, who is from Durban, has attracted international attention since releasing his first album, Child of the Light, in 2001. It earned the musician two Samas (South African Music Awards) for best newcomer and a Kora award for most promising male artist in Africa.

His second album, Lovely Things, introduced him to a younger R&B and jazz audience and won him a 2002 Sama for best jazz adult contemporary album and a Metro Award for best jazz artist in 2003.

Smith is expected to release another album later this year.

Le Grange is an accomplished musician who completed her schooling at the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg, where she studied both classical and contemporary music. She got her first taste of music at a young age through her mother, who played the organ in church.

First spotted as an Idols competitor, the singer has recently returned from a tour of Egypt. She released her first English album in 2003; her second was in Afrikaans, titled Dis My Somer.

She founded a modelling and grooming school in Eldorado Park, in the south of Johannesburg.

The family day show is at the Eldorado Park swimming pool on Sunday, 28 October. It begins at 1pm and entrance is R20 at the gate.
