IT may be spring across Joburg, but Montecasino promises winter – snow games, snowball fights, snowboarding and skiing are on the cards at the casino all weekend.
The Tiffindel Extreme Snow Extravaganza is on until Sunday, 2 September, from 11am daily.
"Tiffindel has always been an adventure destination and we have brought the adventure to Joburg," said David Taylor, the chief executive of Tiffindel Ski Resort in Eastern Cape province.
There are demonstrations by husky dogs, fireworks and snow burning, as well as the Slope Style and Big Air snowboarding competitions. Participants have to bring their own equipment, however. Entry for each competition is R50, with cash prizes of R25 000 and R15 000 up for grabs.
The competitions follow the Quicksnow Games, held at the ski resort in July.

The extravaganza opened on Thursday, 30 August, with more than 50 schoolchildren turning up. "We are hoping to see more kids in the coming days, as there's plenty to do," said Karyn Theron, the event organiser.
Several snow sport champions are also pencilled in to appear - three-times Olympic skiing winner Alex Heath, freestyle skiing champion Bradley Stevenson, and snowboarders Chris Pervical, Matthew Amoretti, Brett Lange and Kat Maponyane.
"These successful snowboarders and skiers will perform awesome stunts in an effort to encourage young snowboarders and skiers to [improve] in the sports," Theron said.
Taylor explained that the event had been brought to Joburg to encourage people to visit ski resorts in summer and in winter. "This is not a winter sport only as most ski resorts have manmade snow all year round."
