IN CELEBRATION of South Africa's heritage, music talent and the arrival of spring, local radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo is hosting a day-long music festival featuring some of the country's most popular artists.
The Joburg Day Music Festival takes place on Saturday, 16 September at the Randburg Sports Complex, in northern Johannesburg.
It promises to be a truly fun family day, with plenty of food stalls as well as entertainment for the kids like face painting, carousels, jumping castles, sand art and climbing walls. Patrons can also bring along their picnic baskets and blankets, and visitors are advised to carry sunscreen and hats for protection from the sun.
Eleven of the country's top artists are being included in the line-up: rock pin-up Arno Carstens, Afro pop group Jamali, Pop Idol winner Heinz Winkler, Johnny Clegg, Just Jinger, Prime Circle, Dr Victor, Denim, Karen Zoid, Watershed and DJ Jazzy D.

Rock band, Watershed, will get the audience dancing
"94.7 has a long history of promoting local artists and is committed to showcasing local music, as seen in our playlist and through features like Julio Garcia's Homebrew Show," said station manager Ravi Naidoo. "Joburg Day is really an extension of that commitment, 94.7 is Proudly South African and proud of SA music."
The first Joburg Day Festival was held in 2004. Last year's event was a resounding success with more than 10 000 people attending, and 2000 more people are expected this year.
The venue is situated at the corner of Republic Road and Silverpine Avenue. Gates open at 8am, although the concert only begins at 11.30am and runs until 7pm. Free secure parking will also be available.
Strictly no alcohol, pets, gas or charcoal braais or glass bottles and containers will be permitted at the venue.
Tickets to the event cost R120 per person from Computicket. Tickets for children under the age of 12 are available at the gate for R50.
