The Levi's Rage for the Revolution concert, happening in Newtown this weekend
Levi's Rage for the Revolution is the cornerstone of Levi's Red for Life programme, an initiative that aims to get South Africa's youngsters aware of how HIV/Aids affects their lives. It is supported by SABC1, Metro FM and 5FM.
"The HIV/Aids pandemic poses a serious threat to the development of a prosperous future for the youth of Mzansi," said Vuyo Dyantyi, SABC1's marketing manager.
"It is therefore imperative that Mzansi's leading television brand involves itself in this crucial social intervention to conscientise and empower the youth to face this threat effectively. Therefore, SABC1 seeks to encourage a positive and responsible attitude to ensure our continued success and prosperity as a nation."
The Levi's brand, together with New Start, an international health non-governmental organisation, will set up mobile testing centres for young people to get to know their status. All the artists performing at the concert will be encouraged to get tested at the mobile testing centres. Members of the public who get tested before the event will get free tickets to the concert.
You can get tested at the New Start offices at Floor 17, Marble Towers, 208-212 Jeppe Street, Johannesburg. Another testing station will be set up in the Eastgate mall. It will operate from 10am to 4pm.
Metro FM's station manager, Matona Ntshona, said: "One day people will look back and ask, ‘What did you do in the struggle against HIV/Aids?' And we want to be able to say that we were and will continue to be at the forefront of any initiative involved in combating HIV/Aids. We owe it to all South Africans to ensure we are doing all we can."
5FM is also on board and the marketing manager, Aisha Mohamed, said: "5FM is committed to any charity initiative that not only aims to educate our youth about the risks and dangers of HIV/Aids, but also to play a proactive role in encouraging people to take a positive stance concerning the pandemic. Levi's Red for Life has been doing brilliant work in this regard and we proudly support this event."
Tickets are R50 and are available from Computicket on 083 915 800, on the Computicket website, at the gate or at any Levi's store in Johannesburg.
