IT'S that time of the year again – time to pack your picnic bags, fill your cooler boxes, grab your camping chairs, put on your bikinis and make your way to the annual Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Beach Party at the Orlando Power Park Dam in Soweto.
Thousands of party people are expected at this year's beach party, which takes place on Saturday, 4 November and Sunday, 5 November.
Once again the organisers will turn the dam into a beach, with 400 tons of white sand spread across the shore to give revellers a truly beachside feel. About 16 Soweto taverns will have an island-style presence, where they will be offering refreshments.
Setting the mood at last year's party
The beach party is not just for music lovers; a variety of activities are planned for the two days, including soccer and beach volleyball. And, to ensure safety at the beach the organisers will erect eight kilometres of perimeter fencing.
But back to the entertainment – this year it is spelled with a capital "E", and South Africa's hottest artists and DJs are on the bill.
On Saturday the party will start at 11am and will blast until the early hours of the morning, with Malaika, Brown Dash, Sash, DJ Sbu, DJ Mphulo, Uncle Terry, HHP, KB, O'Pele Pele, Chippa, Chomee, MXO, Relo from Skwatta Kamp, Sanza, Ma'Casket, Kentphonik, DJ Mathenjwa and Metro FM DJs.
Sunday will be a far more laid back affair, with the sweet sounds of jazz and chilled vibes washing over the beach. The artists' line-up includes Louise Carver, Joe Nina, Swazi Dlamini, Robbie Malinga, Nombulelo, Gugu Shezi, DJ Andrew Chaka of Jozi FM and Metro FM DJs. It also starts at 11am.
Tickets for the beach party are available at Computicket and at the gate. Saturday's tickets cost R70 at the gate and R80 at Computicket, while Sunday's tickets cost R40 at the gate and R50 at Computicket. Tickets for both days cost R90 at the gate and R100 at Computicket.
"The Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Beach parties are gaining a reputation for turning Orlando into a coastal destination for party lovers," say the organisers. "All roads lead to Soweto; make sure you are on one."
