THE piano man is coming to Johannesburg. As part of his world tour, the ever-popular Billy Joel has planned a concert at the Coca-Cola Dome in north-western Joburg.
The performance, on Thursday, 26 October, will also feature Joel's eight-piece band. Billy Joel began his career as a singer and musician in 1971 and recorded more than 20 albums before he retired from the studio in the 1990s.
During that time he collected six Grammy Awards, including for Best Album for his 1977 release, The Stranger, and for Song of the Year for Just the way you are off the same album. He has had worldwide sales of over 100 million albums, and was the first artist in the world to have five albums that sold more than seven million copies.
Despite these impressive figures, Joel is probably better known as the man who brought us hits like Piano Man, Uptown Girl and We didn't start the fire. Piano Man was the title track off his second album and was inspired by a stint as a piano player in a bar in Los Angeles before he made the big time.
His current tour recently set a world record for selling out New York's Madison Square Gardens for 12 consecutive nights, beating Bruce Springsteen's long-held record of 10 nights.
Tickets are priced from R250 and are available from Computicket on 083 915 800, on the Computicket website, and from all Computicket outlets nationwide.
