It's carols-at-Zoo-Lake-time again

Pack the picnic baskets and bring out the candles, 'tis the season for festive cheer – and Carols by Candlelight at Zoo Lake.

November 23, 2006

By Lucille Davie

IT'S almost December and the year is winding down fast, so it must be time for Carols by Candlelight.

The annual Zoo Lake Carols by Candlelight will be held on Tuesday, 28 November, on the grassy fields alongside the lake.

"Bring along your picnic baskets and blankets," says Lucy Taylor, co-ordinator of the Zoo Lake Users' Committee and organiser of the annual event.

If you don't feel like packing a basket, the Zoo Lake Bowling Club Restaurant will be selling boerewors rolls and cold drinks at the venue.

Programmes, candles and candleholders will be on sale for R10.

So spread out your blanket, light your candle and sing along to the carols with the St Phillips Chorale from Soweto, the Soweto Marimba Kidz, and the Salvation Army Band.

Taylor says children are asked to bring along wrapped Christmas gifts for lesser-privileged children.

The carols take place at 6pm. Should it rain, the event will move to the nearby Jan Celliers School on Lower Park Drive.

Taylor says she has raised half the money needed for the event. If you are able to donate money, contact her on 011 726 2784 or taylor.fam@pixie.co.za.
