Jozi fans can
still catch Snoop live

Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg is set to put on a show on Wednesday for his local fans, after missing the People's Celebration Concert in Jozi on Freedom Day.

Jozi fans of Snoop Dogg will be able to catch his live act after all - the edgy muso is set to perform at the Johannesburg Stadium on Wednesday, 3 May.

The hip-hop heavyweight missed a concert on Freedom Day after he and five of his bodyguards were detained at London's Heathrow Airport while en route to Johannesburg.

It is alleged that a row broke out after some members of his 30-strong entourage were refused entry to the British Airways first class lounge at the airport's Terminal One. This occurred shortly before the musician was to board his flight.

Instantly recognisable from his Afro and braids, Snoop rose to fame in 1993 with his debut album Doggystyle. Part of the 1990s gangster rapper crew, Snoop became the most famous of the bunch thanks to his unique style of drawled, lazy rhymes - and hardcore lyrics.

Fuelled by his gritty street life and criminal reputation, Snoop's popularity was assured, with more than 1,5 million copies of his first album being sold before its release. It was also the first debut album to hit the charts at number one.

The chart-topping hits Gin 'n Juice, Drop it like it's hot, Let's get blown and Signs cemented his superstar status.

Snoop's 2003 Project Revolution tour added a "rock" flare to his old and new favourites, engineering a musical collaboration with hard rock bands Linkin Park and Korn.

Organisers are urging those fans who bought tickets for the People's Celebration Concert last Thursday to exchange the stubs before Wednesday at a Computicket outlet.

Those who did not have tickets can still attend the show. Tickets are on sale at reduced prices: R75, R125, 175, R225 (excluding service charges).
