MEN will be encouraged to talk about their responsibilities and any challenges they face, as well as search for possible solutions, at a Men's Dialogue on Friday, 19 May.
The dialogue is being held by Johannesburg's Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) and the theme is "Men and morality – men's responsibilities in being part of the solution".
Delegates from churches, social organisations and the community are expected to attend the dialogue, the first to be held by the MRM. It takes place at the Orlando Communal Hall in Orlando East, Soweto.
"The dialogue will provide a space for men to air their views about challenges presented by democracy and any societal problems they encounter," says Reverend Mapula Mtintso, the acting chairperson of the MRM interim committee. "Many men feel excluded by certain policies introduced by the government and this dialogue will hopefully present solutions to these problems."
Discussions will include challenges presented by democracy, HIV and Aids and the role of men in fighting violence against women and children. The MRM, formally launched by the government in 2002, supports any organisation that aims to instil sound social values in South Africans.
It seeks to promote the principles of good governance, demonstrate zero tolerance of any practice that impairs human dignity and the right to a decent life and to profile all initiatives and good work made towards moral regeneration.
"We have invited Executive Mayor Amos Masondo to give the keynote address. We hope that after the dialogue, men will meet more frequently in various forums and build on any resolutions taken during the dialogue," Mtintso explains.
