IF you're planning a wedding, or even if you're not getting married soon, there's enough happening at Bridal Africa 2006 to inspire you for when you do take that trip down the aisle.
Bridal Africa will once again stage a "multi-cultural bridal fantasy" at Gallagher Estate in Midrand over two days – Saturday, 13 May and Sunday, 14 May. There will be more than 100 exhibitors displaying anything and everything to consider when planning a wedding – from the dress right down to the type of icing you want on the cake.
Exhibitors include outfitters, couturiers, hair and beauty, jewellery, accessories, invitation printers, honeymoon destinations and even legal and life insurance services to make sure your affairs are in order before the big day.
There will also be four non-repetitive fashion shows on both days, presenting 154 individual designs by more than 47 of South Africa's premier fashion designers. Lucky visitors will be picked to have their hair and make-up done, and those who already have their gowns can get advice on how to make them look more flattering.
In association with the Fashion Group SA, each year Bridal Africa hosts the Bridal Africa Young Designer Award 2006. The initiative is to provide talented young local designers with a platform to showcase their abilities. The winners will be announced at a gala event on Friday, 12 May before the show opens, and the finalists' designs will be part of the daily fashion shows.
Among the highlights is the chance to win a wedding valued at a whopping R108 500. The package includes a five-night honeymoon in Mozambique, reception venue décor, reception disco and the bride's transport by limousine to the wedding venue. Entry into the competition is open to all visitors and entry forms are available at the venue.
Bridal Africa is open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, 13 May and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, 14 May. Tickets are R50 at the door. An online registration facility is available on the Bridal Africa website for a discounted entry of R40 a person.
