CITY Parks staffers were recognised for their good work when the agency's managing director, Luther Williamson, handed out certificates during a tour of eight facilities.

Williamson and other executive staff presented the awards on Wednesday, 10 May, during the third annual MD Achievers Award. The awards were presented to a range of workers, from gardeners and machine operators to horticulturists. All excelled in their responsibilities.

West Park Cemetery, Oppenheimer Towers, Roodekrans Lapa, Waggon Road in Hurlingham, Mushroom Farm Park, Mitchell Park, Wemmer Pan and Springfields were on the itinerary.

On arrival at Roodekrans Lapa, workers continued with their tasks. Zone two manager, Thabang Mokone, said: "I don't have to prove how they work, you have seen it yourself … This team is always there whenever you need them."

Williamson praised the workers for the extra effort that they had made, ranging from good site maintenance, to excellent site decorations and setting professional standards.

He said the tour was held not only to recognise the hard work done by City Parks staff, but to give an opportunity for employees and executives to meet.

"The awards will ensure our employees remain highly motivated and continue to prioritise service delivery as part of the company's service excellence charter."

Nominated employees received certificates of recognition, City Parks caps, hats, beanies and bags. Williamson urged his executive team to look into more creative ways of giving money as a reward to employees.

He ended the day by saying, "It was an exciting day for me and I thank all of you for a job well done."
