JOHANNESBURG'S new mayoral committee has been announced. Executive Mayor Amos Masondo named the 10-member team at a press conference at the Metro Centre in Braamfontein on Thursday, 23 March.
The members of the mayoral committee will serve a five-year term, which started after the local government elections on 1 March.
"I have today assembled an experienced and capable team of men and women to constitute the members of the mayoral committee," said Masondo, announcing the committee members.

"I believe that this team will be focused and effective. It will strive to deepen our work and ensure that our vision of building Johannesburg into a world-class African city becomes a reality."
In choosing the members of his committee, Masondo said he had to balance the need to represent gender, geographic spread, the national question, age and political experience.
Portfolios to be filled by the committee include finance and economic development, infrastructure and services, housing, community development, health, safety, development planning and urban management, environment, transport and corporate services and administration.
There are five new members, including the former speaker of council, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, who now holds the portfolio of community development.
"We haven't lost any portfolios," Masondo said. "What we have done is we have restructured to ensure that there is visible service delivery.
"Over the next five years this political team will lead the City in undertaking a major new programme of development and delivery. Their work starts immediately."
The committee will attend a five-day mayoral lekgotla next week to chart a way forward for the next five years.
"At this mayoral lekgotla we will be considering what it is that we need to accomplish, in greater detail, during this term of office," Masondo added.
"On behalf of all the members, I would like to thank the mayor and the African National Congress for the confidence they have in us," Mayathula-Khoza said. "Challenges are there and as our mayor said, our work starts immediately."
Masondo concluded by saying that together, the committee "will serve the people of this great city with dedication and demonstrate even greater levels of commitment".
