IT'S that time of the weekend, so put on your dancing shoes, get your camping chairs, fill your cooler boxes and head to the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia for 11 hours of entertainment.
The park will come alive as SABC 2 celebrates its 10th birthday with a music concert on Sunday, 19 March at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia.
Music lovers will be dancing to the sounds of Mabuso, Arno Carstens, Mafikizolo, Patricia Lewis, Bongo Maffin, Dozi, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Danny K, Karen Zoid, Jonny Clegg, Freshlyground and Ntando.
Other musicians and dancers who will be performing for most of the afternoon include the Soweto Marimba Kids, Basadi Meropa and the Theo Erasmus Orkes.
DJ Suga and Pepsi Phokane will be the MCs for the day. The concert will be broadcast live on SABC 2 from 8pm to 11pm.
"We are throwing the party of the year to celebrate this wonderful occasion," said SABC 2 general manager, Bessie Tugwana. "The channel has had much success during the past 10 years and we want to share the joy with our viewers and friends."
The Johannesburg Botanical Gardens will be transformed into a fantasyland, complete with jugglers and fire dancers, stilt walkers and clowns.
Those who want to chat to their favourite stars and get autographs need not worry. A huge marquee will host SABC 2 stars from 7de Laan, Noot vir Noot, Morning Live, 50/50 and World of Winners, such as Joe Mafela, Ashifashabba, Die Nutsman, Twakkie, Michelle Garforth, Walter Mokoena and Freek Robinson.
Kids will be spoilt for choice in the kiddies entertainment park while parents choose between a massage or manicure in the pamper zone.
There will be food stalls and mini-flea market areas trading throughout the day.
Entrance to the concert is by ticket only but SABC 2 has made 8 000 tickets available to the public free of charge which can be collected on a first-come first-served basis from Computicket.
Tickets can be pre-booked through Computicket on 083 915 8000 or 011 340 8000 or 083 131 or by sending an email to info@computicket.com.
