LOCAL Grammy nominee Petronel Malan is the highlight of Pro Musica Production's exciting March and April season. The pianist, who has been nominated for the Grammy Awards three times, performs a solo recital.

Her programme comprises Sonata in C Major (K 330) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Sonata in B Minor by Franz Liszt; Waltzes op 39 (1865) by Johannes Brahms; Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 by Franz Liszt; and Cadenza by Sergey Rachmaninoff, which is also known as the Rachmaninoff Cadenza.

Tickets for Malan's recital are R60 and R100. A 25 percent discount is available for Friends of the Theatre, pensioners, students and block bookings of more than 10 people. The show is on Sunday, 19 March at 3.30pm.

It is followed by the Pro Musica Orchestra Symphony Concert on Sunday, 2 April at 3.30pm. The orchestra plans some wonderful works by Mozart. Tickets cost R40, R70 and R100. A 25 percent discount is available for Friends of the Theatre, pensioners, students and block bookings of more than 10 people.

In a different tempo, the Fiesta National Dance Company presents Light on Dance, a Latin dance extravaganza that includes dances like the rumba, flamenco, classical dancing and others. The company presents a combination of Spanish dance to music by Bizet as well as traditional Basque dance, from the north of Spain.

Dancers include Linda Vargas, of the Linda Vargas Spanish Dance Company; Brigitte Movius; Nichole Haswel; Jared Kruger; Dylan Marshall; Jossi Afargan; Megan Reeks; and Roquelle Carreira. Brazilian-born Demi Fernandez is on flamenco guitar.

Adrian Ziller accompanies the dancers on the South American drum, to add an authentic South American beat to the rumbas. He also plays the guitar.

The show is directed and choreographed by Florence Fourie who "has choreographed many productions over the years and her vision and creativity has helped to create a unique blend of dance disciplines and styles", says Bellinda Edge, the theatre's manager of direct marketing.

It runs from Wednesday, 5 April to Saturday, 8 April at 8pm.

Friends of the Pro Musica Theatre presents its first concert this year for senior citizens, with a performance by the West Rand Youth Orchestra, on Wednesday, 3 May at 10am. The next concert is in September.

The concert is only open to pensioners, and tickets are R25. This includes refreshments.
