THE popular Ackermans Chialanse sports tournament, a goodwill event meant to "keep kids busy", will take place from 1 April to 15 April at the Moletsane Sports Complex in Soweto.
This year the tournament features an exciting array of soccer teams from Soweto and beyond. An Under 15 and Under 19 netball tournament has been thrown in to add spice to the event.
Participating teams - 80 in total - come from as far as Limpopo, Vaal, Newcastle and Duduza, says Vusi Kunene, the organiser.
"The event will take place over Easter, a period when most people, children in particular, will be free and we want to keep them busy. The entire two weeks will be spent playing soccer and creating friendships."

Fans keep a keen watch on their teams in a Soweto football tournament
The tournament will be launched on 25 March at the Dobsonville Shopping Centre at 10am and teams are urged to attend a meeting on the same day at the Moletsane Sports Complex.
It will feature boys' soccer teams in the Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 categories, while the girls' soccer and netball tournament will feature Under 15 and Under 19 teams. In the Under 10 boys' soccer category, eight teams will vie for a first prize of R800, a trophy, 21 gold medals, a certificate of participation and a full soccer kit in a knockout system.
The team coming second will pocket R400 and the joining fee in this category is R250. The defending champions are Mofolo Spurs.
Smallfarm Black Pirates will defend their crown in the Under 12 boys' soccer tournament, which will involve 16 teams in a knockout system. This year's winning team will pocket R1 200 and the second place team will get R700, plus a whole lot of prizes to go with the cash. The joining fee in this category is R350.
The Under 14 boys' soccer tournament is based on a gruelling point system and will involve 40 teams divided into eight groups. The two best teams from the eight streams will go to the knockout stage. With a R5 000 first prize, this category promises to be a humdinger. The team coming second will pocket R1 800 with the third and fourth teams will walk away with R900 and R500 respectively. Mapletla Brazil will defend the title.
The Ackermans Women's Cup will be contested by eight teams in a round robin system. The winners will pocket R700 and a floating trophy, with the team coming second going away with R350. Fabulous Ladies are the defending champions in this category.
The Ackermans Netball Cup Under 15 tournament will also be played on a round robin system, with 16 teams taking part. The winners will get R300 vouchers, the team coming second R200 vouchers and the third will get 12 bronze medals for their efforts. The Under 19 netball tournament will consist of eight teams vying for R400 vouchers. The teams coming second and third will get R250 vouchers and 12 bronze medals respectively.
