MUNICIPAL pay points will be closed over the long weekend of Friday 16 and Saturday 17 June due to the Youth Day public holiday.
June 16 commemorates the 1976 uprising when thousands of students took to the streets against being taught certain subjects in Afrikaans.
The City of Johannesburg's Revenue Management Unit is advising customers to use alternative forms of transactions to pay their bills over the long weekend.
"Customers who are wanting to pay their accounts are encouraged to use alternative options such as internet, telephone and ATM banking or via any Post Office, any ABSA branch or EasyPay outlets such as Pick 'n Pay and Checkers/Hyper," says the City' Revenue Management Unit general manager for marketing and communication, Mandy Jean Woods:
Woods added that the unit did not expect much impact, as it was not yet the end of the month, but precautions were still necessary.
"Remember to keep proof of payment and that it may take up to five days for a payment to reflect on your account when paid through a third party," urged Woods.
Pay points will also close at noon on Friday 30 June for the financial year-end of the Revenue Management Unit.
