WE Will Rock You, the award-winning musical by Queen and Ben Elton now on at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, has proved so popular that two additional performances will be staged.
Two matinees are planned during the winter school holidays: on Wednesday 12 July and Friday 14 July at 3.30pm. "We want to cater for the young ones during the day," says publicist Debbi de Souza.
We Will Rock You features 24 of Queen's greatest hits, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Are The Champions," "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".
The musical is based on the futuristic world run by the Globalsoft Corporation, where all human activity is carefully controlled and the only music allowed is via synthesisers.
Debuting in London some four years ago, the show has been seen by over five million people around the world.
At the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, the mesmerising Francois Lliam plays Galileo Figaro, the story's hero, while diva Vicky Sampson rocks as the Killer Queen. They are supported by a charismatic cast and impressive dancers.
We Will Rock You is on at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, Loveday Street, Braamfontein, until 15 July. Ticket prices range from R100 to R300 and shows are on from Tuesday to Sunday.
Tickets for We Will Rock You can be bought from Computicket, on 083-915-8000, on line at www.computicket.com, or from a local Computicket outlet.
Booking for the two matinees can be made from Wednesday, 21 June. The starting price for the matinees is R75.
