Water supplies to several Joburg suburbs will be interrupted over the next two days as the City's water and sanitation utility upgrades and maintains the supply infrastructure.

Residents in the city's northern suburbs as well as several parts of Soweto will be without water on 5 and 6 July, as local utility Johannesburg Water continues with maintenance and upgrading of infrastructure.

According to Baldwin Matsimela, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, the disruption to the northern suburbs is part of routine maintenance in the area, while the disruption in Soweto is due to upgrading of the water network there.

"It is part of our efforts to ensure we continue to provide our customers with a good water supply," he said.

On 5 July, water supplies to Blairgowrie, Cresta, Darrenwood, Jacanlee, Linden Extension, Randpark, Robindale, Robin Hills, Windsor East and Windsor West will be cut between 8am and 6pm.

On 6 July, water supply to Dube, Meadowlands and Molapo will be disrupted between 8am and 6pm.

However, Johannesburg Water has assured residents they will not be stuck without water. "Water tankers will be strategically placed around the affected areas so that our customers have an alternative supply of water," Matsimela said.
