THE last time Bryan Adams performed in Jozi, he did it in style by welcoming in the New Near. For obvious reasons he can’t do the same when he returns in March, but at least he will still do it in style.
The Canadian pop rock legend is noted the world over for being one of the best live acts around. And he will perform the final leg of his Room Service tour at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate on 12 March.
An academic education was not his priority, and Bryan quit school at 16. Much to his parents' dismay, he joined the rock band Shock, later moving on to the semi successful band Sweeny Todd.
Realising that he was destined for greater things, however, Bryan left the band to embark on a solo career, and has had the kind of success that most singers only dream of. His 1980 solo debut may not have been groundbreaking, but 10 albums later the man boasts shelves-full of awards, including a Grammy, an American Music Award, countless industry and songwriting awards and three Academy Award nominations for his music and lyrics on film soundtracks.
The song Everything I Do, I Do It For You from the movie Robin Hood earned him a place in the record books for the longest running number one single in British music history.
This time around, the superstar's show includes a repertoire of ballads like Have You Ever really Loved A Woman and Please Forgive Me and rock favourites such as 18 Till I Die, Summer of 69 and Cuts Like A Knife. So be sure to get your ticket before they are sold out, for an evening filled with thundering bass lines, extraordinary drumming and, more importantly, Bryan Adams’s powerful vocals.
The South African tour is the work of Big Concerts, East Coast Radio, Algoa FM and 94.7 Highveld Stereo. Tickets are available at all Computicket outlets, online at the Computicket website or on 083 915 8000.
Ticket prices range from R345 closest to the stage to R247 for standing and R165 for mezzanine.
